Additional Living Expenses (ALE) coverage: ALE coverage, sometimes referred to as loss of use, will reimburse you for hotel, travel and food expenses if you're temporarily displaced from your home.
However, certain luxury items, such as jewelry, may only be covered up to a $1,000 to $2,000 limit, unless you add an optional rider to your policy.
Property coverage: Your policy will reimburse you for any personal property, such as clothing, TVs and furniture, that is destroyed when a plumbing malfunction causes damage to your home.
Dwelling insurance also covers your home's built-in appliances, such as a water heater, if they're damaged. If part of your house is damaged by a covered leak or if you have to remove a part of a wall in order to repair a leak, your dwelling coverage will reimburse you.
Dwelling coverage: Your policy's dwelling coverage clause insures the structure of your home, such as its roof, walls and floorboards.
